Ben Stokes and Jasprit Bumrah lead two strong bowling attacks that sit out the fifth test

Can Ben Stokes really continue with all things? No, apparently not. Is Jasprit Bumrah the risk of injury when he plays again? Yes, apparently he is. Is someone on both sides sufficiently suitable for bowling in the fifth test? Um. Maybe. Kind of. Although the way it goes, England can open bowling with Harry Brook’s right arm completely.

It has been a debilitating series to be a fast bowler. The series of five games have always been difficult, but they have only become more difficult because back-to-back tests became the convention. Three and four-day finishes have masked the impact in recent years, but this summer we have had two even matched teams routinely to toe-teen to day five. They have not even lost any overs in bad weather. (And hopefully the London again will not abandon us during this last test.)
