Ben Foster has spoken out about what he believes is a realistic target for Manchester United this season, while also praising the summer signing who has helped put the team in place.
After a disappointing 2024-2025 season, which saw United miss out on European football, the Red Devils were in dire need of a revival.
They had to bounce back and do it in emphatic fashion.
But with just two wins from the first seven games this season, many feared it would be another disappointing season.
Then came October and with it a turning point. Three straight wins and two draws later, United’s fortunes have changed.
The team finally seems to have a connection. And while Bryan Mbeumo, the Premier League Player of the Month for October, and Ruben Amorim, the Premier League Manager of the Month for October, have dominated the headlines, Senne Lammens is a player who deserves a special mention.
Lammens has been nothing short of a revelation
Lammens’ arrival has transformed United’s playing style. His superior goalkeeping has done wonders for the backline.
He completely changed the mood. The defense now looks sharper, calmer and much more confident.
Suddenly, crosses into the penalty area no longer feel like penalties. Panic has been replaced by calm. You see defenders trusting the man behind them again.
It is no coincidence that his introduction coincided with United’s current five-match unbeaten run.
Even Foster, who initially doubted Lammens would get off the ground at Old Trafford, has changed his tune.
Speaking of his Fozcast podcastthe former United goalkeeper admitted:
“I think the goalkeeper set them up nicely, to be honest.”
Foster reflected further on United’s recent improvement:
“I think they’ve just established themselves in a starting XI, that’s working a bit.”
He then revealed what he considers a ‘unreal’ ending for United’s 2025-2026 season:
“If they make it into the top four this season, it will be an unreal season.”
Foster’s assessment is difficult to dispute
Lammens has been revolutionary and has lived up to the hype of being the next Thibaut Courtois.
An upgrade from both André Onana and Altay Bayındır. His presence between the posts has given United a real chance of returning to Champions League football.
And if they do, it will be nothing short of a surreal season.
