BCCI rule denies Nitish Rana to play DPL 2025, despite switching to Delhi from UP

Only a few days before the Mega auction of Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 a major development has been created around former KKR captain Nitish Rana. Despite his return to the arrangement of the state of Delhi after two underwhelming seasons with Uttar Pradesh (UP), the left-handed person was not taken into account to participate in DPL 2025 because of a BCCI regulation. The DPL auction will take place on July 6 at 10 am, but Rana will not be among the names in the swimming pool.

A forgetful stint at Up Ends in Homecoming

Rana’s decision to switch back to Delhi was recently confirmed after the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) granted him a certificate without objection (NOC). After he had his name play for Delhi, Rana moved in 2023 in an attempt to breathe new life into his career in Red-Ball and also captain.

But it didn’t go as planned. In 10 first -class matches, Rana scored only 447 points at 31.92, with only one century. His list A and T20 retours were even more modest -72 runs in 7 List A games and 314 runs in 16 T20s. After falling from UP’s Ranji Trophy Squad and even omitted from the UP T20 League auction (this season), Rana called to return to Delhi – the state where he grew up.

Interestingly, reports suggested that India chief coach Gautam Gambhir, an old mentor for Rana, played a role in facilitating the move.

Why can’t Nitish Rana DPL 2025 play?

Given his switch back to Delhi, many fans expected Rana’s participation in DPL season 2, especially with the tournament that extended to eight teams this year. Rana’s name, however, is missing at Sunday due to a clause in the transfer policy of BCCI’s domestic player.

According to the BCCI rules, each player must observe a cooling-off period of 12 months of switching on state associations before they are eligible to play local T20 competitions for the new association. Rana, who supplied a franchise in their domestic T20 competition only a few months ago, did not complete this cooling requirement.

“Unfortunately, the 12-month cooling-off rule this season does not allow the DPL to participate in the DPL this season. He has taken a No Objection certificate (NOC) from UP and is eligible to officially represent Delhi, but he can only play the DPL next year next year‘A BCCI source told Cricker. For now, Rana will only be seen in national national tournaments, with his DPL debut probably postponed until 2026.
