BBC Sport pundit declares: ‘Newcastle are a strange team but I’ll continue to back them to win’

Some interesting comments from this BBC Sport pundit on Newcastle United.

Chris Sutton speaks ahead of tonight’s match.

Newcastle United versus Burnley at Turf Moor.

A 7.30pm kick-off on Tuesday evening as Eddie Howe and his players head into their final match of 2025.

With nine places but only six points separating 14th-placed Newcastle United and the top five, this is such a tight Premier League table.

United need to start winning quickly and by that I mean starting tonight.

With Palace and Leeds at St James’ Park next, followed by rock-bottom Wolves further afield, these next four Premier League games present a great opportunity.

Chris Sutton speaks about our opponents tonight and says: “Burnley have drawn their last two games but they really need a win as they are a bit adrift at the bottom, six points from safety.”

The reality is that Burnley had lost seven PL games in a row, then suffered a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth (who have now failed to win any of their last nine PL games) and Scott Parker’s side were awarded a goalless draw in their last game at home to Everton, but Burnley without a single effort on target.

The BBC Sports The expert adds that Newcastle United could also use a win, Sutton thinks: “It’s a strange team because they are playing quite well but not really getting results. I keep supporting them to win, so it costs me money too. I’m not going to stop though. I’m going for a rare away win for Eddie Howe’s side and this time they will keep a clean sheet.”

Hopefully Chris Sutton is right on both counts.

The BBC Sport man has predicted a 1-0 away win which would make it six wins in a row for Eddie Howe against Burnley as they won the previous five (home and away), scoring 11 and conceding just three.
