Some interesting comments from this BBC Sport pundit on Newcastle United.
Chris Sutton speaks ahead of Saturday’s match.
Newcastle United start their next Premier League match.
Against Everton at Hill Dickonson Stadium during the 5.30pm kick-off.
Newcastle United’s players had surpassed and deservedly won against Manchester City last weekend, but lost 2-1 in Marseille on Tuesday after leading 1-0 at half-time.
Chris Suton talk to BBC Sport – November 28, 2025:
“I really like what David Moyes is doing at Everton. They were very good in their win at Old Trafford on Monday – first with eleven men and then especially with ten.”
“I really enjoyed the argument between Idrissa Gueye and Michael Keane that led to Gueye’s red card. There were a lot of teammates of mine who wanted to punch me, I can tell you. Looking back, I definitely would have deserved that.”
“With Jack Grealish, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Iliman Ndiaye, Everton have something about them going forward and they are great to watch, but they are just missing a goalscorer.
“Their centre-forward against Manchester United, Thierno Barry, actually did well. It didn’t look like he was going to score, but in that scenario he worked so hard with ten men and had a lot of balls thrown at him.”
“Whether it’s Barry or Beto who starts against Newcastle, they’ll both get a goal – Beto hasn’t found the net since August, while Barry hasn’t scored this season.
“Apart from Everton’s centre-forwards not scoring, one of the only other things that has been consistent since the start of the season is Newcastle’s away form, in that it is very poor and they haven’t won in the league since April.
“Still, when it comes to predictions, given the quality they have in their team, I always think: ‘will it change? [with Newcastle United] this week?’
“They will have their moments against Everton but I don’t look at this game and think they will go there and win. Instead I will sit on the fence.”
“Prediction: Everton 1 Newcastle 1”
My thoughts
So is the BBC Sport expert here on money?
I think Chris Sutton has given a very fair overview of this next match and the various issues surrounding it for Newcastle United.
As the BBC Sport pundit says: Will this be the away game in the Premier League when United finally show what they are capable of?
As Sutton states, the likes of Grealish and Ndiaye are Everton’s main attacking threats, but assuming both Livramento and Hall are available to start, I’m confident they can repeat the level they showed against Doku and others last weekend. Indeed, none of the Everton players are particularly interested in the defensive side of things, so I think there’s no chance of Hall and Tino having a lot of fun in the future either.
If the likes of Joelinton and Woltemade are able to come back into the starting XI suitably refreshed as expected after getting some rest against Marseille on Tuesday night, then we can hope that the team will reach a similar level to what they did against Man Coty.
Gueye and Coleman added to the injured list on Monday evening as Newcastle United received further encouragement.
If NUFC’s midfield can play like they did in the win over Man City, then I think this will be the first Premier League away win of the season for Eddie Howe’s team.
