BBC Sport provides ‘neutrals’ commentary on Newcastle United after 3-2 defeat to Everton

Interesting to read these ‘neutral’ comments from BBC Sport, after Newcastle United lost 3-2 at home to Everton.

Saturday afternoon’s defeat leaves United in a no man’s land in the Premier League.

Eddie Howe and his players are now banking on the Champions League and FA Cup for a positive end to this season.

Whether it’s positive or negative, you certainly won’t have to wait long this season until the next NUFC match hopefully delivers a win…

The BBC Sport readers comments of neutral people, some of the scouse mackems (as well as the more local mackems, although they tend to pretend to be neutral people or even NUFC fans), plus one or two Newcastle supporters who also contribute:

‘It seems like I can’t keep a clean sheet this year. And scoring goals seems to be a problem.’

“Agree, you were bad for giving in to both twice within 90 seconds. Think Pope has had his best day. When Barry and Beto score against you, that’s really bad!!’

“I don’t think beating a team from Azerbaijan makes you anything special.

Reality check for Newcastle fans after effectively getting a ‘Bye’ against Qarabag.’

‘The same Qarabag who won three games in the Champions League and drew against Chelsea?’ Not really a goodbye.’

‘Everton was lucky and got a gift.

Tonali was a mile MOTM and looked a class better than everyone else.

But when we get defeated, the extreme reactions come out and it all becomes overplayed.”

‘Write off this league season and hopefully we can do something in the cups, but that will be very difficult.’

‘It has taken Everton 28 games to surpass the 30-goal mark for the season.

Teams that barely score a goal per game on average should be battling relegation and not sitting comfortably in the top half. If every team offered consistent mediocrity like Everton, you could say goodbye to the title of ‘best league in the world’.”

‘If the opponent’s goalkeeper was MOTM, Newcastle wouldn’t have had such a bad game.’

‘Pickford’s save is something special. If Barry hadn’t scored from his backside, I think we would have had a pin anyway.

Hopefully further and higher, and second best points removed is something we haven’t done for a long time!’

“It was tough and it’s easy to be reactive when you’re frustrated, but we’re still a good team. We’re just conceding far too many soft goals, which is suicide at this level and gives us a mountain to climb in some games. You have to take into account that we have now played 45 games this season. If we weren’t in Europe and not doing well in the cups, we would be a different team in the league.’

‘Everton are eighth and not far from Chelsea in the table.

They can still do a lot and higher in European places.

They were constantly battling relegation every season before Moyes came in.

David Moyes is underestimated.

Look out for the big trophy in two years.’

‘It’s astonishing how Newcastle and Spurs are in the last 16 of the Champions League. Both defensively terrible! If Everton can score three at St James, what will Barcelona do!’

‘Sorry Newcastle, but you will never be a big 6 team if you can’t beat Everton at home. Beating Everton at least 9 times out of 10 is a prerequisite for being a ‘big 6 team’.”

‘Newcastle is consistently inconsistent.

Today they are world beaters and tomorrow they will be at a low ebb.

They can beat Barcelona in the CL and lose to Bodo.

Strong team with real potential and clear quality, but really needs to be consistent.

All the best for the rest of the season.’

“Newcastle are a do-gooder against the side where players want to move to and not worry about the rest. Hall, Bruno and a few others gave it their all, but there were eight players on the field today who gave their all.”

‘Funny that! When they read a Barcelona website, their fans said it was difficult against Newcastle and only two great goals from Rashford in the second half got them through.”

‘The love between Sunderland and Everton goes to a new level today.

Thanks guys…’

‘The chip on the shoulder love-in? Bless.’

‘I always thought the Barcodes punched above their weight – totally overshadowed by a very well organized Everton side.’

‘Newcastle should win every game where they score two goals at home. What happened to tight end back 5 from 3 seasons ago?’

“As I have said before on this platform, Newcastle is a very ordinary team with maybe one or two top-class players. If the Toon Army were to take off their rose-colored glasses, they would agree that their team is nothing special.”

“I think that ends the debate about the barcodes thinking Pope is better than Pickford.”

‘As a Newcastle fan the last thing I would think is that Pope is anywhere near as good as Pickford’

“Wow, that second half was heart-in-your-mouth stuff. Wave after wave of Newcastle attack, but Everton held on and took the deserved win. I wish Moyes would make subtitles much sooner. Well done Everton, now I have to do the same at HDS!’
