Interesting to read these comments from BBC Sport, following Newcastle United’s 2-1 win over Fulham.
The comments from neutral people in particular tell…
It was very different to what Newcastle United fans had come to expect from BBC Sport’s ‘neutrals’.
BBC Sport comments from neutrals in the past have largely been a catalog of abuse directed at NUFC supporters.
Particularly stuff about the owners of Newcastle United and the media-inspired pile-ups that NUFC fans have become accustomed to when they are blamed for who now owns their club.
On this occasion, politics were completely absent and instead focused on matters on the pitch and Newcastle United won the Champions League… again!
The BBC Sport readers comments of neutral players, some Fulham fans, plus the odd Newcastle supporter (and Sunderland fans!) also contributing:
‘Murphy makes the difference again. What an underrated player he is.’
‘Easier than a goal with his missed chance?’
‘Still making a difference by taking a bigger chance…’
A bizarre troll game from you.’
‘A Mackem… hold on, son, enjoy it while you can…. it will be short-lived.’
‘The better team won. I don’t understand why Fulham choose Traore, who is quite useless.’
‘You know how bad the London clubs are when both North East clubs, known as pub teams, can beat them.’
‘I completely agree about Murphy, but it doesn’t come close to England’s set-up.’
‘I mean, he has more assists and goals than almost any other English winger, but hey, why let the stats get in the way?’
‘Fulham are not having any luck with anything this season.’
‘Sunderland in second place.’
‘And?’
‘Newcastle didn’t stop pushing, fortunately perhaps, but the more you push the happier you become…’
‘Happy? Hit the post twice and should have converted a few more chances.’
‘Sunderland 2nd 6 points against you coming up.’
‘Let’s put this in perspective: we’ve had a bad start to the season, but we’re only five points behind you.
Give your head a wiggle Mackem.”
“Will Osula made a big difference today with his enthusiasm and hard work. Too much sloppy play for much of the Newcastle game.”
‘Fulham and the referee were a tough test for Eddie’s boys.’
‘Thiaw was my MOTM. Was cleaning things up late in the second half to keep the pressure on and keep the momentum going. Class player.’
‘Good effort Fulham with a depleted squad, remove the mistakes and we’ll climb the COYW table.’
‘Referee was shocking.’
“Newcastle are very lucky with the results and deserve to be in the Championship.”
‘Thank you for your considered opinion. I’m sure Eddie will be devastated if you think that way.’
‘Attention seagulls, the mackems are in the mood.’
‘You feel a bit for Calvin Bassey because he lost possession twice and both times led to goals. Everyone made a lot of mistakes today, but his happened to be particularly costly.
It doesn’t mean he’s a bad player, it just shows that it’s often a matter of luck whether you get away with something or pay an expensive fine. It can happen to anyone.’
‘Bassey had a great performance for Rangers in Europe a few seasons ago, a decent player and won’t be the first/last to be caught by the Newcastle press.’
‘Statistics are encouraging, but results are not. Keep losing these tight games. He never seems to score the crucial second goal. Home points are crucial now. Ref. Teeside. Short trip home.’
‘Tony Khan may get an adrenaline rush as he dances on the edge of the transfer window, but if he doesn’t open his wallet and buy the players Marco needs, I see us going under in May.
The frustration verges on despair. It doesn’t help that he has a depleted squad due to injuries.’
‘Nice 3 points. Fulham well coached side. Nightmare opponent after a midweek match. Eddie handled the big calls perfectly.”
‘Isn’t there a PL rule that prevents the opponent’s coach driver from being a match referee? As neutral. today was the worst performance by a referee I have ever seen!’
