Stephen Amell and David Boreanaz have their next network TV roles.
David Boreanaz has been cast as the lead in a reboot of The Rockford Files.
Boreanaz (SEAL team, Bones, Angel) succeeds James Garner who played the famous private detective from 1974 to 1980.
Rockford is described as a “witty, world-weary and chronically broke private investigator whose charmingly gruff exterior masked a strong moral core.”
The pilot for NBC says: “James Rockford, newly paroled after serving time for a crime he didn’t commit, returns to his life as a private investigator and uses his charm and wit to solve cases in Los Angeles. It’s not long before his quest for legitimacy lands him squarely in the crosshairs of both local law enforcement and organized crime.”
Meanwhile, Stephen Amell (Arrow, heel, take LA) has been cast as Hobie Buchannon, a series regular Baywatch restart.
“From the first conversation, Stephen Amell conveyed exactly what this new chapter is about Baywatch requires: heart, intensity and that undeniable hero energy,” said Matt Nix, executive producer and show creator, in a statement. “He’s the kind of leader who can sprint into danger, carry the emotional weight and still make it feel fun. We are so excited to get started.”
The 12-episode series will premiere in the 2026-2027 season by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle.
The original lifeguard drama debuted in 1989 and quickly became the most-watched series in the world, airing in more than 200 countries. The film starred David Hasselhoff and helped launch the careers of Pamela Anderson, Carmen Electra and Jason Momoa.
