Zero goals and three assists in 17 appearances paints a bleak picture for Wirtz, but domestically he is said to have drawn the short straw at Liverpool, with Slot being the man who gave him that.

According to Fabrizio RomanoBayern Munich honorary chairman Uli Hoeneß has claimed that Slot broke several promises to Wirtz, which were used to seal his move to Liverpool in the summer.
“Finally, Wirtz promised something that he is now clearly not keeping: build the new team around him with the number 10 shirt. That was nonsense. He got the number 7 shirt, and the new team clearly does not play around Florian Wirtz.”

Wirtz is bringing in a fantastic player, so it’s confusing why he has struggled so much since moving to Liverpool. Hoeneß’s claims that Slot is not taking advantage of the 22-year-old’s strengths are well-founded, although the player himself must also be able to adapt to the situation he finds himself in.
Should Slot fail to turn things around at Liverpool and get sacked, it would be interesting to see if Wirtz picks up the form. He performed well in the weekend win over West Ham, but the question is whether he can perform at that level on a consistent basis.
