Just like with Fukuoka Open from last week in Japan, we do short summaries about the winners and remarkable Asian tour professionals who may not know that regular followers of the professional tours based in the US, but those names are to know. The Vietnam event attracted a few of the regular Pru’s in Australia than last week’s Japanese event, about which we will talk below.
Men’s Pro Singles Summary
Vietnam star Phuc Huynh, who has the no. 3 men’s Singles Dupr throughout Asia (behind only Duong and Bhatia), the number 1 seed Hong Kit Wong trounded early and then drove to the gold medal without dropping a match. The favorites of the birth city played well and eliminated all Australian participants in the opening rounds.
Women’s Pro Singles Summary
Yufei Long, who won almost a triple crown last week in Japan, drove in the final as the number 1 seed without being seriously challenged. In the final she stood in front of Australia
Sahra Dennehy, who long gave everything she can handle before she fell 11-9 in the third. Danni-Eel Townsend, who made a solid impression this year in PPA Internationals, was upset in the first round by 43-year old qualifying match and final bronze medal winner from Japan Rika FujiwaraA former WTA Tennis Pro who toured for more than 20 years before he withdrew from tennis in 2020.
Mixed Pro Doubles Summary
Joey Wild & Danielle Townsend surprise the field to take the mixed title.
PPA Tour Asia
The four American professionals worked together in their natural partnerships: the brother-sister duo of Alix and Jonathan Truong (who have Vietnamese carrots) on one side, and the off-the-Court pair AJ Koller & Meghan Dizon on the other side of the draw, the two top seeds and intended to reach the final. The domestic players had other things to say, such as the Australian Jamie Haas and the Indian player Harsh Mehta (who took bronze with Indian no. 1 Arman Bhatia on the US Open 2025) of Streek Koller & Dizon in the first round. It is not surprising that Haas & Mehta drove from the upper half in the gold medal match after removing the favorite of the bracket.
There they met the Australian No. 3 seeds Joey Wild & Danni-Eel Townsend, who achieved a solid victory of the coming team on the Truong team in the Semis to earn the final. In the final, Wild & Townsend Haas & Mehta 4.9 surpassed for the victory.
Tangent: Who sowed it here? What is one of the top players of India in Mehta, a man who has several titles internationally, the 16th seed here? Even playing with Jamie Haas, a 5.6 double player but not slow, it seems that they should have been a higher seed.
Men’s Pro Doubles Recap
AJ Koller (L) collaborated with Jonathan Truong (R) to take the title of the men’s doubles.
PPA Tour Asia
Two of the leading US professionals to travel to this event were newly signed DC-area Native Jonathan Truong and MLP Super-sub AJ Koller; The couple worked together in Herendubbels, got the number 1 seed and ended with the gold medal. However, it was far from smooth sailing for the duo, who survived a 11-9 third game thriller in the Semis against Hong Kit Wong & Eunggwon Kim (who came from Hong Kong and Seoul respectively).
In the final, Koller & Truong two of the best in Australia in Joseph Wild & George Wall survived. The name of Wild is perhaps known; He combined with Zane Navratil on the PPA Australian Open in January and is currently the No. 1 ranked player by Dupr in Australia. Wall, coincidentally, is no. 2, both with DUPRs that overshadow the 6.00 range, so it is no surprise that they dressed in the final.
Women’s Pro Doubles Recap
Two more professionals in Meghan Dizon and Alix Truong worked together in the US during this event and were the number 1 seeds, and like the American top of the American In-Het American team, a little problems came into the hands of top players from the region before they rose and took the gold. Dizon & Truong had to play the Japanese open champions Yufei Long & Ting Chieh Wei in the quarters before he was stretched in the half of Australia’s best in Nicola Schoeman and Danni-Eel Townsend by two from Australia.
In the final, Dizon & Truong got two players with US ties. Xiao Yi Wang-Beckvall is from Hawaii, but this year mainly plays the circuit of Asia/Australia. She worked with Lauren Mercado to make the final before she fell to the two PPA tribe guests.
Again, I have to ask: who did the sowing here? How did Long & Wei won an event a week like the number 4 seeds, then they are here number 8 and play what a last two rounds should have been early?
Next for the PPA Asian Tour? By Master Pickleball schemethere’s a break for a few week, then head to kuala lumpur, capital of Malaysia and home to the petronas twin towers, which were officialy the world’s tallest buildings from 1998 to 2004. Then they head back to vietnam, to nang, nang nang, naa, na da nangnam Point event that could be a sneaky way for a ppa tour regular to take a long flight for a weaker draw for some added ranking points.
