Bangladesh umpire retained by India for 3rd ODI vs New Zealand despite handshake row at U19 World Cup

India will continue with Bangladesh Umpire Sharfuddoula Saikat as the third umpire for the final ODI between India and New Zealand. The BCCI has not taken any action against the Bangladesh umpire despite the recent controversy during the U19 World Cup.

The recent controversies between India and Bangladesh have been sparked by the recent handshake controversy during the U19 World Cup between the two teams. India and Pakistan have started the trend of violating handshakes in the game, which has now also taken over the Indo-Bangladesh conflict.

However, despite yesterday’s recent move, the BCCI has not further fueled the controversy and has rather decided to sort things out. The Indian team also shook hands with their opponents after winning the group stage.

BCCI continues with Bangladesh Umpire for the 3rd ODI against New Zealand

Sharfuddoula Saikat is the first umpire from Bangladesh to be part of the ICC Elite Panel of umpires, having previously taken part in several high-profile matches such as the Ashes and several crucial Test matches at the WTC.

The ICC had clearly stated that the referee does not need permission from the BCB to continue officiating matches in India during the India-New Zealand tour as he is contracted with the ICC and not under the BCB.

The BCCI has also continued to appoint him as match officials as they enter Indore for the final match of the ODI leg of the series. The match officials for today’s match include Bangladesh’s Sharfuddoula Saikat, who will remain the third referee. Anantha Padmanabhan and Richard Illingworth are field officials. Rohan Pandit is the 4th referee and the match referee is Javagal Srinath.

India brings Arshdeep Singh on board for the NZ series decider

The Indian management has been repeatedly criticized for choosing Prasidh Krishna despite the poor economy he is suffering in the 50-plus format. Arshdeep Singh, on the other hand, has not only been economical but has also picked crucial wickets when the Men in Blue have needed him.

Arshdeep Singh may not be the fastest among Indian pacers, but the way he uses his rhythm to put pressure on the batters makes him deadly in attack. However, he was not picked in the first two ODIs as Mohammad Siraj made a comeback into the ODI squad for India.

Ahead of the final match against New Zealand in Indore, where the pitch is already flat and a batter’s paradise, the Indian paceman has returned to play for India in the Playing XI.

Arshdeep Singh strikes in his first over of ODI return

Arshdeep Singh picked up a wicket straight away when he returned to play for India. When he picked the wicket of Henry Nicholls in the first over, he was also very economical in the powerplay despite the pitch being called a batting paradise in India.

Singh, after the wicket, strengthened his rhythm as he moved it either way, beating the outside edge of Mitchell’s bat several times and bowling a maiden in his second over. His accuracy and lateral movement have consistently troubled even the highest-average batsman in the series.

Before today, Daryll Mitchell had scored over 200 points in the series and averaged over 200; however, he took more than 10 balls to score his first boundary in the game. That is the pressure that is being exerted.
