I’ve only done shorter rides on my stand because it caused neck problems. But I’ve become more diligent about PT for my neck lately and thought I was ready for a longer session standing up. On Friday I went for about two hours and it felt great. My neck doesn’t like leaning over the handlebars for long periods of time, but I can take a break from that by taking breaks when getting up to pedal, or using the bar extension on my handlebars that I call “standing poles” to sit up straight. I made sure to do one or the other every few minutes.
It’s important that I can do this because my stand is much more portable. And if I want to have adventures on holiday, I can rent locally. The chances of renting a recumbent bike are minimal, but upright renting is common. A local adventure I discovered is rent electrically assisted fat bikes in Montereywhere there are many great places to ride.
Friday’s ride would Harvey Bear Park in San Martin and back. I rode up the Willow Springs trail part of the way and then back down and around the easy Martin Murphy trail. This was also a good chance to give my new GoPro another try, and I got some good photos and videos.

On the way home I visited my Alpaca friend at his farm in San Martin. There is a short video here. As usual, he got excited and ran to the gate. Sorry buddy, the sign says please don’t feed the animals.
