Back on Broadway: Kandi Burruss Joins ‘& Juliet’

Kandi Burruss is expanding her talents from the reality screen to the Broadway stage.

The former ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ star returns to theater with her new role in ‘& Juliet’. Burruss returns to Broadway, this time outside the production, with a limited run beginning December 11.

According to PosterBurruss will take over role of Angelique, currently owned by TikToker Cheryl Porter. ‘& Juliet’ is a pop musical that reimagines the classic Shakespeare story ‘Romeo and Juliet’. The retelling focuses on whether the famous female lead never died. As for Burruss’ new character, she plays a mother figure and confidante to the universe’s Juliet.

The Grammy winner released a statement about her inclusion in the breakout hit on Broadway. Known for her own songwriting skills, the 49-year-old credited the piece’s use of modern and timeless Max Martin hits to captivate the audience.

“I couldn’t be more excited to return to the Broadway stage in this incredible musical,” Burruss said in a statement. “As a songwriter, I am such a fan of the brilliant mind of Max Martin, and to return to Broadway in this joyful musical celebrating his catalog is a dream come true.”

However, Burruss is no novice in the Broadway world. Her first Broadway role was as Matron “Mama” Morton in “Chicago” in 2018. Since then, she has embraced the theater scene primarily as a producer.

She has lent her talents behind the scenes to such works as “Thoughts of a Colored Man,” “The Piano Lesson,” “The Wiz,” “Othello” and the upcoming revival of “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone.” Now, she’s returning to the spotlight as she charts a new path in entertainment since ending her stint on the Real Housewives franchise.

Burruss will continue her duties on the 9x Tony Award-nominated musical through March 8 next year.
