Ayden Heaven reveals assessment of Ruben Amorim as coach – Man United News and Transfer News | The People’s Person

As the New Year approaches, few players at Old Trafford have experienced as whirlwind a 12 months as Ayden Heaven.

The 19-year-old defender started 2025 as a youth player at Arsenal but ends having played the last five Premier League games for Manchester United’s first team and received rave reviews from his coach.

After his imperious performance in the win over Newcastle on Boxing Day, Ruben Amorim revealed he was delighted with Heaven, who was deployed on his weaker side in a back four alongside Lisandro Martinez.

“I am very happy with Ayden. You feel that he is getting better every match. He is young, but you feel that he is playing a good match, slows down his thinking and gets better during the match,” said the Portuguese after the 1-0 win.

“He has trained very well and if he continues to play like this, it will be very difficult to take his place.”

It is a testament to Heaven’s meteoric rise that a 19-year-old is now in line to keep experienced stars with international pedigree such as Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire out of the starting line-up.

But it has not been a normal year for the London-born defender, who has turned down the chance to represent Ghana at the World Cup next summer.

Rising through the ranks

Speaking to the the club’s media teamHeaven revealed his surprise at how “quickly” he rose through the ranks of the Theater of Dreams, but emphasizes how much he “enjoyed” the experience.

“I’ve enjoyed it. I’ve done well, I think, with the opportunities I’ve had, and yeah, I just want to take it into next year and keep developing.

“It just motivates me, like I said, to keep developing and knowing that I’m capable of playing games like that. It just motivates me. I was surprised how quickly I got my opportunities when I first joined, but I was ready for it, so hopefully I can get more in the new year.”

Heaven concludes that he now feels like “a completely different player” than the one he started with in 2025.

Amorim is a “great guy”

Amorim has laid the foundation for this progress that Heaven has shown since joining the Red Devils in February, with the centre-back describing the Portuguese coach as “brilliant”.

“He is a brilliant manager. He always reassures me and helps me improve. He is a great guy, also off the pitch, and I will be happy to continue working with him.”

“It helps a lot to know that the manager cares about you and that he takes the time to come and talk to you. That’s good.”

United will be back in action against Wolverhampton Wanderers on January 30. Heaven expects, with full justification, that his manager will retain his place in central defence.
