Avoca is fighting through the cold to continue the revival of the EY Hockey League.

Saturday February 14: The sudden cold snap affected the EY Hockey League Division 1 & 2, with only three matches in both competitions surviving the weather.

In the men’s EYHL, Avoca’s resurgence continued as they made it two top-flight wins from two in 2026 with a narrow victory over YMCA. Guy Sarratt put Avoca ahead in the first quarter, but Ian Perrott leveled YMCA in the final quarter. A penalty for Avoca proved to be the difference maker, while Shane O’Donoghue remained calm and secured the three points for his side.

In the Women’s EYHL2, Monkstown came from a goal down to beat a UCC side who had had a perfect start to that point. Sophie Naughton and Chloe Watkins both scored from penalty corners in the second half, canceling out Micaela Sanderson’s goal in the first quarter. And Cork Harlequins recorded their first win of the season by beating Trinity Ladies. Quins led thanks to a Maya Dullea brace and survived a late Trinity wave to claim their win.

In the men’s EYHL2, Clontarf built on their first win last week to keep the pressure on the top sides with a victory over Leinster’s Bray. Bray broke the deadlock but four unanswered goals for Clontarf, including a brace from captain Tim Cullen, put the match out of reach.

The action continues tomorrow with two EYHL Women’s matches taking place. Pegasus host Railway Union at The Dub, while Portadown take on Pembroke Wanderers at Edenvilla.
