Aussie Weekly Wrap: Sweeny, Preston Soldify Pro Tour Dominance

Dane Sweeny and Taylah Preston were again impressive this week on the Australian Pro Tour and claimed the respective crowns in Perth and Darwin.

Dane Sweeny continues his perfect start to the Australian Pro Tour season 2025/26 in Perth, while Taylah Preston claimed her second consecutive Pro Tour Kroon, emerging victor in Darwin.

Seveny dropped only one set during his campaign – in the quarterfinals against Enzo Agiard – on his way to his fifth consecutive Pro Tour title. The best seed gave only four games in the final against fellow Australian Scott Jones and won 6-1 6-3.

He extends his Pro Tour winning streak to 24 games, after he has won two Pro Tour events in Brisbane and two in Tamworth to start the season.

Seveny also contributes to his great record in all tournaments in the past four months. The 24-year-old has won 43 of his last 47 games, marked by his five Pro Tour titles, as well as triumphs in San Diego and Taipei.

SEENY provided a clean sweep over both sizes, combining with fellow countryman Calum Puttergill to win his first Doubles title in three years. She defeated the Australian Chen Dong and Polish partner Filip Pellwo in the final.

In Darwin, Preston made a backup of her Wagga Wagga campaign to rule Supreme. The 19-year-old beat the Japanese Shiho Akita 7-6 (3) 6-3 in the final to win her fifth career ITF singles title.

Preston was flawless all week and did not drop a set for the entire tournament. Her first set of tiebreak against Akita was the closest that she lost a set.

In The Doubles, Gabriella da Silva-Fick worked with Kiwi Monique Barry to win their second Pro Tour Doubles title this season.

All winners will want to build on their impressive Pro Tour seasons when they fight again in Darwin and Perth this week.

In other competitions around the world, Priscilla Hon went to her first WTA 1000 -dubbele semi -final in Beijing, next to the Czech Karolina Muchova. It contributes to an impressive tournament for HON, which reached the third round of the ladies’ snacks, emphasized by her victory over Jelena Ostapenko.

Olivia Gadecki won her first singles title in two years after winning the ITF W50 -Kroon in Rancho Santa Fe in California. Gadecki defeated teenager Emerson Jones in the final after Jones was forced to retire in the third set.

Nevertheless, Jones is wearing her impressive season on the women’s circuit. The teenager reached the last qualifying round at Wimbledon and the US Open, and insured her first ladies’ title at an ITF W35 tournament in Fukuoka, Japan.

Tenika McGiffin went on to her fourth double final in three months and achieved the performance during a W15 event in Kayeri, Turkey. McGiffin and partner Esther Adeshina fell in a painful match tiebreak.

Elysia Bolton reached the double semi -final during a W35 event in San Rafael, California. In her first ITF tournament in 12 months, Bolton was a match tiebreak removed from continuing to the final and lost 6-4 1-6 [16-14].

In Juniors, Ava Beck won a J200 Doubles title in Hong Kong with French wife Ksenia Ephremova and beat fellow countryman Sarah Milden and China’s Wei Zhang-Qian. Ellen Hirischi was now a doubles finalist during a J200 tournament in Vigo, Spain.

Alex Bolt went from qualifying to finalist last week during an ATP Challenger event in Jingshan, China and defeated No. 2 Seed Mackenzie McDonald and no. 4 Seed James Duckworth in the process. It was his second challenge final of the year.
