John Symond in his house in Point Piper. He has decided that he likes to live there.
‘Aussie’ John Symond hoped to sell his Point Piper Mansion for more than $ 200 million – some say he really wanted $ 300 million. But it has now been removed from the market.
And it’s the second time he has done it.
The last list was last May, when the founder of Aussie Home Loans was the huge Harbourfront house at four levels, Wingadal, said he wanted to exceed $ 200 million.
That would have destroyed the current national house price record of $ 140 million – for a Barangaroo penthouse – in 2019.
Within two months after the offer it was reported that co-agent veterans Ken Jacobs van Forbes and Brad Pillinger from Pillinger had received “several offers above $ 200 million”, but these had been rejected and that Symond had a “dream price” of $ 240 million.
More recently, it was rumor that he wanted $ 300 million.

Sydney flooded in ‘Bidding Wars’
The property was mentioned last May with the first hope of $ 200 million+
When contacted, a spokesperson for Mr. Symond confirmed that the property had been withdrawn.
“He decided that he doesn’t want to sell it, he likes to live there,” said the spokesperson.
“Maybe he will mention it again if it is worth $ 500 million.”
The last time that Mr. Symond put Wingadal on the market was in 2017 in the hope of more than $ 100 million. It was only mentioned briefly, but the second person who looked at it offered $ 110 million, who was rejected.

Symond said at the time that he had reconsidered his decision to sell it during the Christmas holidays.
“I probably came in the decision to put it on the market,” he said.
“My family and friends were shocked that I did that at the time, but I thought I would try.”
Symond bought the Land-2676m², the equivalent of four normal residential blocks-for $ 10.5 million in 1999 and gave the renowned architect Alec Tzannes on behalf of the house at four levels that lasted eight years to build.
The house, built over four levels, has an iconic view.
The house has entertaining areas for 500 people, undercover parking for 20 cars (eight in the garage), four bedrooms plus an apartment with two bedrooms, a swimming pool, a wine cellar for 2500 bottles, a theater with chairs for 22 people and two commercial kitchens.
In December 2023, Mr. Symond split with his wife, Amber, after an eight -year marriage.
He now spends a considerable amount of time in his house in southern France.
It costs $ 22.4 million, it is set on a cliff on the water between Nice and Monaco looking out for the tip of the Saint Jean Cap Ferrat Ferrat and along the coast.
