Travis Head and Sean Abbott, who played the third T20I against India at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Sunday, November 2, will leave the Australian squad for their respective home states.
Left-arm pacer Ben Dwarshuis returns to the T20 squad for the final two matches on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane. Meanwhile, leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha has been released to play for New South Wales in the One-Day Cup.
Additionally, Head will be available for South Australia’s next Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania next week. Abbott, on the other hand, will be available for New South Wales’ next match against Victoria at the SCG.
Head did not make the kind of impact expected of him during the T20I series. The left-hander did not bat in the first game and was out for six in the third. In the second T20I, he got off to a blistering start, smashing 28 off 15 balls before being dismissed by Varun Chakaravarthy. Head will now look to do some match practice with the red ball ahead of the Ashes from November 21.
On the other hand, Sangha was called up to the Australian T20I squad as Adam Zampa was unavailable for the start of the series due to personal reasons. Meanwhile, Abbott played the third T20I, replacing the in-form Josh Hazlewood. However, the right-arm pacer had a forgettable time, giving away 56 runs in 3.3 overs at an economy rate of 16.
After the first T20I was wiped out, Australia emerged victorious in the second match by four wickets, chasing a target of 126 runs in 13 overs. However, India leveled in the third match, beating a target of 187 runs with nine balls and five wickets to spare.
The fourth T20I will be played on Thursday, November 6 at the Bill Pippen Oval in Gold Coast. The series concludes with the fifth T20I at The Gabba in Brisbane on Saturday, November 8.
