Fresh from his wedding in Greece, Denis Shapovalov starts his Asian swing against a fairly tough customer in the unwanted German Daniel Altmaier.
The two played only once before, but it was a marathon in the second round of Wimbledon a year ago. Shapovalov was the upper hand, but after winning the first two sets he needed five sets to take it.
Also in action: Frances Tiafoe, who looked terrible at Davis Cup and was a late scratch for Laver Cup last weekend. He also gets a pretty tough customer in the Marton Fucsovics qualifying competition.
In Beijing all eight -qualifying seeds came through their first rounds and will meet for places in the main drawing. This is surprisingly rare.
