The injury was the last blow to Alvarez, who had returned just on 26 August from a right-hand fracture that held him from the line-up for 100 games this season.

He had beaten in the 18 games since his return .369/.455/.569.

The injury to Alvarez could not have been for the Astros at a worst time, because they follow the already west behind the Mariners through one match and stick to an advantage of two games in the already wild card compared to the Rangers.

The Astros are confronted with the Rangers and Mariners during their next six games while the season is coming to an end.
