The Houston Astros placed right-handed pitcher Spencer Arrighetti on the 15-day injured list shortly before the Showdown on Wednesday evening against the New York Yankees. The placement, which is retroactively until August 31, is due to inflammation in his throwing arch. Houston selected Reliever Jayden Murray on the MLB schedule in his place. Lefty John Rooney has been moved from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list to make a 40-man schedule. The Astros also activated Victor Caratini from the concussion list and brought Chas McCormick to Triple-a Sugar Land activated.
Arrighetti threw 6 1/3 innings from one-run ball against the angels on Saturday. He apparently came from that appearance with elbow pain. The Astros waited until just before playing time to put it on the shelf. Wounded list placements can be returned for a maximum of three days. The Astros have established that Arrighetti needs at least 12 days before he is ready to throw.

How should the Houston Astros continue without Arrighetti?
The Astros activated Luis Garcia of the injured list on Monday. They were planning to go to a six-man rotation, ideally an extra rest day for Garcia and Cristian Javier with both pitchers just back from the elbow operation. This will force a change of plans. They can return to a five-man starting staff with Javier and Garcia after Hunter Brown, Framber Valdez and Jason Alexander. If they want to keep a rotation of six people, they can turn the course on the plan to Lance McCullers Jr. to move to the bull pen. Colton Gordon is in the Triple-A rotation, while Rookie AJ was able to rebuild Blubaugh to rotation work after his MLB career in the Bullpen.
Murray gets his first Major League opportunity at the age of 28. The 6-foot-1 Righty has thrown 64 innings of 4.64 ERA ball more than 50 performances with Sugar Land. Murray fueled 24% of opponents while publishing walks up to almost 11% of the batters. He has threw well lately, so that only six earned points went back in 23 innings that go back to the beginning of July. Murray, a former Tampa Bay conception, was exchanged to the Astros while he threw in Double-A as part of the Trey Mancini/Jose Siri deal with three teams in 2022.
Rooney, also 28, was taken from Miami last month. He made his MLB debut on 24 August against Baltimore and gave one point while he recorded four. Houston placed him on the injured list of elbow inflammation that appearance, and he is now out for the season. The Astros must recover him on the 40-man Roster or do him at the start of the low season at a distance.
Spencer Arrighetti has a seasoned season ago
Arrighetti spent most of the season on the IL after breaking his thumb on a ranger when he was hit by a ball during a batting exercise in April. The second -year Righty is limited to seven starts and has an ERA of 5.35 over 35 1/3 innings. He took the ball 29 times a year ago and threw more than 145 frames in his Rookie season on a 4.53 mark.
On the side of the position player, Caratini returns to the split time behind the dish with Yainer Diaz. The Astros also hold the third catcher Cesar Salazar on the active schedule. That means the first minor League stint of the season for McCormick, which .210/.279/.290 hits 116 plate performances. McCormick was a valuable and underestimated outfield piece during his first three seasons, but he is in the midst of his second consecutive very bad year. He is a long chance to make Houston’s playoff selection (if they are eligible) and this winter will be a non-tenter candidate.
