The Astros have designated right -handed Shawn Dubin For allocation, according to Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle. Good Also Blubaugh was called by Triple-A in the corresponding movement (Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 reported earlier today That Blubaugh was on the way to the active schedule of the Astros).
Dubin is outside the options of the Minor League, so Houston had to follow the DFA route to remove it from his active selection. Dubin does not have the service time or the past that is necessary to refuse an outright assignment to Triple-A, so there is a good chance that he will simply stay in the Astros farm system if he knew exemptions. A Pitching-Nestedy team could consider claiming Dubin from the exemption wire, although the status of the options will probably scare off a few clubs, plus his case for holding on a main class selection is not helped by its brutal month of August.
Dubin had an ERA of 1.33 about his first 20 1/3 innings of 2025, even if that striking era was not fully supported by his secondary statistics. However, a forearm tribe sent him to the 15-day wounded list towards the end of June, and since return on August 12, Dubin has just not looked the same. He has been set on fire for 13 earned runs for five performances and 5 1/3 innings since he was activated from the IL, as a result of which his ERA blows up to 5.61 more than 25 2/3 total frames.
An attack of shoulder inflammation during the spring training already put Dubin on the IL to start the season, and then he only made his debut in 2025 on 11 May, because a single injury reduced his recovery. It seemed good when he finally arrived on the astros hill, but whether Dubin is just rusty or still feels a number of after-effects of his forearm issue, his recent performance was too rough for Houston to ignore.
Selected in the 13th round of the 2018 design, Dubin spent his entire career in the Houston organization and debuts in the show with seven innings during the 2023 season. He then had a 4.17 ERA over 45 1/3 innings in 2024, which starts a few place, but mainly from the Bullpen works. Dubin fought against control problems last year, but although his running speed was enormously improved in 2025, his strikeout percentage has fallen (from 23.7% to 18.9%).
The Bullpen of the Astros has been strong most of 2025, but The Relief Corps has hit a number of large roadblocks than just the Dubin struggles. Star Closer Josh Hader will at least miss the rest of the regular season due to a capsule sprain, and Southpaw Bennett Sousa (already on the 15-day IL) is now also a question mark, because he will be Close the next two weeks While dealing with a Flexor/Pronator Stam. Blubaugh is a rookie that only has nine MLB innerings on his CV, but he will at least be a short fresh arm to act as a tall man in the pen.
