Manager Unai Emery has named his squad for Aston Villa’s Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers this afternoon.
Villa are chasing their seventh consecutive home win in all competitions, a streak that goes all the way back to them loss against Crystal Palace end of August.
Emery has made a single change from Villa’s win at Leeds United and it is a doozy.
Villa will line up with a familiar foursome after shuffling the pack for Thursday’s Europa League match against Young Boys, but the Premier League is calling for the best possible squad.
And no, Harvey Elliott is not in the selection.
Watkins was dropped for the visit of Wolves
Donyell Malen starts today’s match up front after his wonderful double against Young Boys midweek.
That means Villa’s Premier League record scorer Ollie Watkins will be left on the bench following some poor performances and a goal drought that has put his squad in doubt for several weeks.
Malen scored two great goals in the Europa League a few days ago, but his best Villa performances haven’t been as a lone striker.
Emery has taken another shot at the Dutch international in that position, this time in the Premier League, and it could be a decisive game in the coming months when it comes to Villa’s attacking line-up.
