Aston Villa has reached an agreement with Roma on a loan deal for Malen

Aston Villa has signed an agreement with AS Roma, adding Donyell Malen to the Italian team on a loan basis.

Villa have given Malen permission to fly to Rome today to complete a move to Serie A. The Dutch international joined Aston Villa from Borussia Dortmund last January but made just six starts in the Premier League.

Roma have now made the move, agreeing an initial loan fee of £2 million, in addition to a mandatory purchase option of £25 million.

Gian Piero Gasperni’s side have made the move to Malen after missing out on the signing of Giacomo Raspadori. The latter was in favor of a return from Atletico Madrid to Atalanta.

The addition of Malen will boost a Roma side still in the hunt for the Scudetto. The club from the capital is fifth in the standings, but is only four points behind leader Inter Milan.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, are set to strengthen their squad this month. Brian Madjo has joined from Metz in a deal worth around £10 million, while there is interest in re-signing former loanee Tammy Abraham.

There is also a midfielder on the radar after missing out on Tottenham in the race for Conor Gallagher.
