The stables of Warren Greatrex saw a third death in four years at the weekend as an prospective Jockey and trainer Billy Moffatt was found dead in his accommodation in Berkshire
An aspiring jockey died at a leading race period – in the third tragedy on the stables in the past four years. Stable Lad Billy Moffatt was found on Saturday in his accommodation in the Warren Greatrex Stables.
The alarm was raised when Billy, reportedly in his early 1920s, did not show up for work. The resident of North East worked for about a year before Greatrex training horses.
It is the third death in recent years connected to the stable after employees Michael Pitt, 19, was found dead in a gas station after his life in July 2021, and David Thompson, 25, was missing before his body was tragically discovered in February 2022.
Trainer Warren said that Billy’s death was ‘extremely disturbing’ and said, “He was a great member of the team with a great sense of humor.”
Jockey Jack Wilmot said: “Billy, words cannot describe how I feel. I am absolutely deeply sad, I will love you forever and I will always carry you with me what I do.

“Please, please if you struggle with something, please talk to someone. I love your size. Far too quickly disappeared.”
Sjd Racing said: “So sad to hear from the death of Billy Moffatt. Far too quickly we had the pleasure of helping him in his career because he wanted to learn to jump. Our thoughts are with his family. Please check your friends.”
More than £ 10,000 has been collected in one Gofundme Campaign to cover the costs of seeing Billy return to the northeast from Berkshire and the funeral. James Moffat said: “I was asked to set up a go -financing to help me get our boy and all his possessions at home in the northeast and to help them to his funeral.
“It is not something that we would even think if a family, but his mother asked instead of flowers, a small donation, regardless of how much is very appreciated to help all costs cover him to get home and buried, the target is just a few set, everything will help, thanks for reading.”
Speaking in 2022, Greatrex thought about the death of Thompson, a Fer -Chelsea FC supporter, after Pitt. “He didn’t rode, but he loved his horses,” he said.
“We heard on Saturday morning that he had died and it was really hard to take, especially in the circumstances that we lost Michael Pitt last summer, who was another person who was the life and soul of the garden and was a large part of the team.
“With neither boy you would ever imagine that this would happen. There were no real signs. David’s youth was a bit broken and he sometimes hit low, but you would never see signs of it in the garden.
“We are a large family here and to lose a member of the team is not easy to take. Everyone can find it well from top to bottom, but it has been very difficult, but we will get through it.”
