A comparison of the latest Asics Metaspeed Edge Tokyo and the Metaspeed Sky Tokyo. General differences apply to all former models, so let’s find out which style works for you.Sometimes I wonder if running shoe brands just try to buy shoe that is more confusing. Things are now in silos and shoes all share the same name, in this case just shift with 1 word. But of course that shift makes a difference in what you get … but they also look the same.
If you have asked for a long time about the Asics Metaspeed Sky US EdgeThen we will inform you today.
Instead of using version numbers, they have labeled every iteration of the shoe with a city. So it is not only the color that has changed, there are updates with every new model and we think it is the best to date.
Technically, there is another model in this line -up called The Ray, but it is really elite level, so let’s stay with what the rest of us can really use.
We really enjoy both shoes and think that they have that stroking and speed to stimulate a series of running steps … but certainly the front of the package. Guess what we have seen so many of them on the elites at the Boston Marathon!
Asics Metaspeed Sky vs Edge
Consider this your quick comparison and then we dive into some additional details and reviews. The shoes are often seen as forefoot versus heel striking and it is quite true. Asics just says it in different terms.
If you follow the line of the midsole foam, you can see where the plate is and the way in which the types of foam are shifted.
- Both shoes get the updated FF jump foam, making them lighter and bounce
- Both shoes have a little more volume in midfoot than models from the past
- Sky is for people with a longer step (possibly striking for the forefoot)
- Edge is for people with a higher cadence (possibly striking heel)
- Sky starts the metarocker further forward
- Sky Carbon plate is slightly higher in the shoe and is flatter
- Edge The plate is closer to the outsole and more bent
The quantity of any foam from heel to forefoot is the biggest difference in the two shoes. It changes where the energy return comes from pedestrians. Where you land makes a difference in how they position the heel foam and the carbon plate because your impact and strength change based on countries.
Take a slow mo video from yourself who do some sprints to see which style would best match your gangpasting!
Of course the real question is that you can really feel a difference? Yes.
I did in both speed training and although I enjoy both shoes, there was a clear difference in the pick -up that I received from one because it was better with my walking suit.
- Wide feet: Like many carbon -facing shoes, it is a fairly shallow narrow fit.
- Heavier runners: We really like the durability of the foam here and the stability of the edge.
- Long runs: Can absolutely process the marathon distance.
- Front of the package: Yes. These are made for the elite and front-pack marathon runners.

Asics Metaspeed -feeling
Flyte Foam Leap is designed to be both lighter and bounce. I would compare the resilient feeling with that of the Vaporfly (which I love to the half marathon distance). But better than the Daporfly, you do not feel that instability or as you run on a rail.
The extra bonus for this new foam is TPU, it will have a better lifespan than many super shoes. Both shoes also have the FF Turbo+ super critical foam that is poet ..
In the air the FF -jump is on the bottom and in the edge it is at the top. Adjust again to how you land to get the most out of the foam.

Asics Metaspeed Fit
Both shoes also share the same motion wrap 3.0 upper, heel collar, tongue and laces.
The super thin top and tongue fit well. It is not a wide foot shoe, but for most people it feels like sufficient height. We have gotten used to the tongue in so many models and would like that here too, it is only one less to worry about moving on racing day and creating a hotspot.
The heel collar is almost not -pech, which at first sight caused, but actually created zero problems. I think the overall locked feeling of the shoe was prevented without even doing a heel lock.
Asics Metaspeed Sky Tokyo Overview
If you have performed in a previous version like Paris, we think this is an upgrade and we liked that version! Because this version feels a little less stable than the lead, we think it is more suitable for it in particular aimed at 7:30/Miles and Faster Steps.
As noted, the carbon plate is a little higher here, so that you can get rid of the forefoot faster. This also means that you get less of the Flytefoam Turbo Plus under the forefoot.
You will also notice that the outsole has a slightly different cut forefoot. This is again a very specific choice of design for moving and expanding the foam based on where you place the most weight in your pass. To be honest, it is a pretty impressive amount of thought that is placed in the small differences.

Asics Metaspeed Edge Tokyo Overview
Okay, now we exchange place with our foam and we go to a model that may feel a bit more stable for some because you get more of that denser foam in the heel.
That switch in foam means that the edge can feel softer, but is actually more stable with the denser foam at the bottom.
The carbon plate is aimed at the heel striker and is bent to help offer more of that rolling vertical propulsion.
I just had a lot of fun in both shoes of my 7 -minute steps until a longer duration repeats me around 8 minutes of pace. I would not hesitate to pull them out for a goal of 5K or marathon.
