Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka with five wickets in the third game in the super-four stage of the 2025 Asia Cup on Tuesday 23 September in the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
After he had chosen to first bowl, Pakistan started an excellent start thanks to Shaheen Afridi’s twin strikes in the Powerplay. Kusal Perera and Charith Asalanka started but threw their wickets away in the sixth and eighth respectively. Dasun Shanaka, who was Sri Lanka’s star with the bat in the last game against Bangladesh, left for a golden duck.
Wanindu Hasaranga set a few limits before he was fired in the 13th. Sri Lanka had currently lost six wickets for 80 points. Chamika Karunaratne and Kamindu Mendis added a crucial 43-run stand-off 39 balls to bring Sri Lanka past the 120-run mark. Eventually the Lankan lions ended on 133/8. Kamindu scored top with a 44-ball 50. Shaheen was the choice of Pakistani bowlers, ending with numbers of 3/28. In the meantime, Hussain Talat and Haris Rauf fell two wickets each.
In answer, Pakistan started aggressively, because the openers added 45 runs in the first six overs. From 45/0, however, Pakistan dropped to 57/4 in the ninth. Mohammad Haris also flowed flattered to decode and was fired for an 11-ball 13.
Mohammad Nawaz joined forces with Hussain Talat and the duo showed a lot of maturity during their undefeated partnership of 58 runs in 41 balls. Pakistan called house in 18 overs with five wickets in hand.

Hussain Talat threw three overs and used the slow conditions to his advantage. He ended with figures of 2/18 in his three overs. Talattook the important wickets from Asalanka and Shanaka of successive deliveries.
2. Mohammad Nawaz ‘Blitzkrieg Take Pakistan at home in a canter
Mohammad Nawaz had no chance to roll his arm, but he gave the goods into the bat. The Southpaw came in a difficult stage with Pakistan that faltered on 80/5 in 11.1 overs. However, he took the bull at the Hoorns, played a counterattack cricket and this rattled the Sri Lankan bowlers. He finished undefeated at 38 out of 24 balls, ricked three four and so many six at a heavy pitch to save.

3. Wanindu Hasaranga gives Sri Lanka Hope
Wanindu Hasaranga gave his best on the field again, but did not get much support from his teammates. The leg spinner was introduced in the seventh and he only took four balls to lose Salman Agha, bowling with a Pearler. In the following he sent Salman Agha packaging. Earlier in the game, his catch was fantastic to fire Fakhar Zaman. Abrar Ahmed had celebrated the Wicket of Hasaranga by doing the feast of the latter. The Sri Lankan all -rounder gave it back phenomenally and celebrated the wickets of Zaman and Saim Ayub in Abrar’s style.
