The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) is convinced that India and Pakistan will face each other in the coming Asia Cup 2025, which is planned to start on September 9, with the final planned on September 28 in the VAE in the midst of the current Operation Sindoor.

Both India and Pakistan are placed in the same group in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 and are opposed to each other for the first time since the Pahalgam attack on 14 September.

However, there is some concern about whether the two teams would play, especially after the recent withdrawal of India from matches against Pakistan in the recent world championship of Legends 2025 (WCL 2025), a private tournament in England.

India Champions had unsubscribed for both the group stage and the semi -final in the World Championship of Legends 2025.

However, the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) has made it clear that the Asia Cup 2025 is an important continental tournament that is controlled by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), in contrast to the WCL. So the India-Pakistan match is expected to continue without problems.

No risk that Pakistan and India do not play: ECB

ECB CEO Subhan Ahmed said by Pakistan Observer: “Although I cannot give a formal guarantee, there is no risk that Pakistan and India do not play. The Asia cup cannot be compared with private tournaments such as the Legends World Championship, where India refused to play against Pakistan.”

In the meantime, tensions between India and Pakistan have increased after the Pahalgam attack in April 2025. This attack forced India to launch Operation Sindoor, which is still underway, as said by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Given that many Indian fans have demanded a complete boycott from Pakistan.

Nevertheless, the Asia Cup 2025 has been set to continue as planned, because the BCCI is now an individual body. This tournament is seen as a structure of next year’s ICC T20 World Cup, which is organized by India and Sri Lanka. And that is why the Asia Cup is also played in the T20 format.

BCCI and PCB retain silence in the midst of Buzz

Earlier this year, India and Pakistan met in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 during the group stage, where the men in blue crushed the men in Green by six wickets in Dubai. Both BCCI and PCB, however, remain silent about the social media buzz about whether the game could go into the VAE.

In particular, the Indian Cricket team is currently enjoying a break after a hectic test tour through England. The young Indian team led by Shubman Gill succeeded in drawing the Anderson-Retulkar Trophy 2-2 in England. On the other hand, Pakistan is currently on the Caribbean Tour.

They already won the T20i series against the West Indies and are now preparing for the ODI series of three games before they returned to the VAE for the upcoming Asia Cup.
