Aryna Sabalenka would love to have kids now, but here’s her realistic pregnancy plan | Tennis blog for women

Aryna Sabalenka is at the height of her career, and in a recent one interview with Alexander Sokolovskythe Grand Slam champion opened up about when she hopes to have a baby and how her pregnancy plans have evolved over the years.

The 27-year-old WTA player, who claimed her fourth major title at the 2025 US Open, finds herself in a long-term relationship with entrepreneur Georgios Frangulis and would really like to become a mother. For now, her focus remains firmly on building her tennis legacy.

In the interview, she reflected on how her views on pregnancy have evolved as she’s gotten older and approached the age when many women start thinking about motherhood.

“At 18 I thought that at 25 I would win everything I wanted, have a baby, come back and keep winning,” said Sabalenka, whose first Grand Slam title came almost three years ago at the 2023 Australian Open. “When I was 25 I thought maybe 27 or 28. Now I’m 27 and I realized that I want to get the most out of my career.”

Sabalenka loves children and admits that she would like to have one now, but she is also realistic and acknowledges that a pregnancy at this stage would inevitably impact the trajectory of her career. At this point, Sabalenka thinks she will be ready for motherhood in about five years:

“I probably want to try to start a family in about five years and maybe come back, depending on what stage of life I’m in. It’s hard because if I could, I would do it now. I love children and they seem to love me. And I would really like that. But right now my priority is my career and seeing how far I can go.

Sabalenka has been with her current boyfriend for over a year and a half. A funny situation occurred at the 2025 US Open when a man in the stands got down on one knee to propose to his partner, briefly interrupting Sabalenka’s meeting with Leylah Fernandez. In her post-match press conference, Sabalenka said commented on the unusual scenewishing the couple a happy marriage and admitting her at that moment looked at her boyfriend and jokingly added, “No pressure.”
