Rice returned from injury to score a brace as Arsenal moved six points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
After Evanilson opened the scoring for Bournemouth, Gabriel Maghalaes fired Arsenal level before Rice scored in the second half to seal an important win. Eli Junior Kroupi pulled one back but Arsenal held on and took the points.
Rice has evolved into more of an attacking threat since signing for Arsenal, with his support at Bournemouth netting four goals for the Premier League season. His goals were an example of greater freedom to move forward, twice arriving late to convert cutbacks.
The 26-year-old is on course to improve on his best ever goalscoring season, which he achieved during his debut season in north London.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Arteta said Rice’s return was a big moment for his team.
“Every hour for him was important to be available today. We didn’t know for how long, so the way he competed, played and also scored two goals, I think it was excellent and a very big message for the team.”
Rice is currently the second favorite to be named PFA Player of the Year, behind Manchester City striker Erling Haaland. When asked whether the midfielder can now be considered one of the best in the world in his position, Arteta did not hesitate.
“For me, yes. For me, the ones we have are the best. Declan is constantly adding things to his game. He is constantly adding things to his role in the team. I don’t see where he can stop because he can still improve in many areas and he wants to improve. He is such a crucial player for us.”
