Ola Aina appeared to handle the ball in the penalty area after it hit his shoulder, but VAR ruled the defender’s arm was in a natural position.
Arteta argued that Aina intended to keep the ball in play with his arm and therefore a penalty should have been awarded.
Arteta fumes as Arsenal denied ‘clear penalty’ against Forest
“We obviously wanted to win the match. We knew the match would be very tough and close, also because of the way they play. We created four big, big chances and a clear penalty, but we couldn’t win the match.”
“I’ve just seen the replays, I think there’s a clear intention to play the ball in and it’s a clear penalty so I don’t understand why it wasn’t given.
“We could have been better, but this also happens in the whole league and with every team. We have to improve and be better, especially when we create four big chances, you have to throw them away.”
“You have to create that moment. We created certain moments, but we also give credit to that because they are very well organized and they also constantly disrupt your momentum in clever ways. We knew that. We tried to find a goal in the end. I don’t think we conceded a single shot. But those are the margins and we didn’t find a way to win it.”
