Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that both William Saliba and Gabriel Martinelli have been ruled out of the match against Brighton due to injury.
The teams face each other at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday for a place in the League Cup quarter-finals, with kick-off scheduled for 7.45pm BST.
The Gunners were left with a number of injury problems after their 1-0 home win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday.
Arsenal got Saliba and Martinelli injured for Brighton
Neither Saliba nor Martinelli will feature against the Seagull after picking up injuries this weekend. Saliba was subbed off at half-time, while Martinelli limped through the tunnel at the end of the match.
Arteta could not give a timetable for the French defender’s return. “We are assessing him, but he won’t be involved. It looks good that he is.” [Martinelli] is going to come true. We will have to do a few more tests, but it looks like this game is coming too soon.”
Arsenal is already struggling with a number of injuries in the selection, with Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, Noni Madueke, Gabriel Jesus and Ben White also on the treatment table.
However, there was positive news for the north London team as Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka and Riccardo Calafiori have all been cleared to play in midweek.
Rice was forced off with an injury in the second half of the Palace match and Calafiori came off at the same time. Saka was also discharged early after battling an illness last week.
Arteta provided an update on White, who he revealed has suffered a setback in his recovery.
“He had a setback and it didn’t help,” he said. “It was an injury that kept him out for a few weeks and we had to keep his load under control. The reason why he is not playing is to make that happen; he is in a good place now, he has been training lately and his feeling is very good.”
“If Ben is at the level he can show, he is a top player for us, a player who controls the team in a different way, gives us a different threat on that flank as well, and we need him at his best.”
