Arsenal defeated Atletico Madrid 4-0 on matchday three of the Champions League at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, a result that many believed was a statement from the Gunners that this could very well be their season to clinch silverware.
Viktor Gyokeres got on the scoresheet with a brace, while Gabriel Martinelli also found the back of the net to ensure a 100% scoring start in the European Cup. Despite the fact that his attack is functioning well, Mikel Arteta would like to add to the flanks.
Football Transfers reported this that Arsenal are still keen to sign Real Madrid striker Rodrygo Goes, a player they had been monitoring for much of the summer transfer window but were unable to sign due to his desire to remain in the Spanish capital.
Life under Xabi Alonso hasn’t been too rosy for Rodrygo, who has started only two of nine La Liga matches under the manager. If his situation does not change in the coming months, there will be renewed grumbling about his future.
Rodrygo a solid signing for Arsenal
If Rodrygo Goes were to leave Real Madrid next year, the Whites could quote a similar asking price to earlier this year after valuing the Brazilian at almost £87 milliona figure who eventually ousted the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool.
Although his price tag is on the higher side, the two-time Champions League winner would be a great addition to Mikel Arteta’s side and a striker who would also fit ideally into the manager’s tactical setup.
Rodrygo is a big upgrade on the left flank compared to Leandro Trossard, who could leave next summer anyway, as well as Gabriel Martinelli. His excellent dribbling, finishing and chance creation will be a huge asset to the team.
His potential signing could see Eberechi Eze play exclusively as a number 10 and compete with Martin Odegaard, while Rodrygo’s own versatility will create more serious competition on the right wing and also in the striker position.
In an interview during the international break, Rodrygo admitted that there were offers for his services this summer, but he remains loyal to Madrid and will not want to leave unless the club asks him to seek greener pastures.
How his situation develops will be worth keeping an eye on, especially with Vinicius Junior also entering the final year of his contract in the Spanish capital, but nevertheless, all indications are that Rodrygo will be a fantastic signing for Arsenal.
