Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich youngster Lennart Karl Caught offside.
After joining the Bavarian club’s youth academy in 2022, the 17-year-old made his first-team debut in the Club World Cup match against Auckland City this summer.
The youngster has played regularly under Vincent Kompany this season, starting three games in all competitions and scoring the same number of goals. He became the German giants’ youngest goalscorer in the Champions League by scoring against Club Brugge in midweek.
Now, Caught offside stating that Arsenal are interested in signing Karl and have been closely monitoring his development ahead of a potential move next summer.
The Gunners scouts were present at the Allianz Arena midweek to watch him against Bruges. However, the North London club is not the only club in this race, with Chelsea and Manchester City also planning a move.
Karl currently has three years left on his current deal, having recently extended his contract, and Bayern Munich are in no rush to decide his future. However, if they have to let him leave, they are prepared to demand up to £70 million.
Conflict
Karl is a left-footed right attacker, but is also comfortable centrally. He is technically sound, can dribble past opposing defenders in tight spaces, has an eye for scoring goals from distance and is efficient at playing passing passes between the lines.
The German is a very talented player and has the potential to become a world-class striker in the future. So he would be a big step forward for Arsenal or Chelsea if either club were to ultimately manage to secure his services.
However, the Gunners already have Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke on the right flank, with Max Dowman emerging. On the other hand, they have Martin Odegaard, Eberechi Eze and Ethan Nwaneri for the creative midfield position.
Therefore, the North London club does not need to spend much to add depth in these positions. But Chelsea lack quality in the wide forwards and do not have a good backup option to support Cole Palmer.
Facundo Buonanotte has been signed to do the job, but he is on loan and could return to Brighton next year. So Chelsea would be a better destination for Karl than Arsenal if he chooses to leave Bayern Munich.
