Arman Tsarukyan vs. Shara Magomedov ends in confusing draw despite submission-only rules

The fight between Arman Tsarukyan and Shara Magomedov turned out to be a lot of hype, but little meaningful action.

Both UFC fighters met on Tuesday in a highly anticipated wrestling match under the Hype Fighting banner at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex in Yerevan, Armenia. The no-judges, no-time limit match ended after just six minutes, ending in a draw, with neither fighter able to achieve a decisive finish.

Although “Ahalkalakets” set the tone early by landing the first takedown attempt, the opening exchange quickly came to a halt. Magomedov was briefly on top during the ensuing fight, but Tsarukyan jumped back to his feet. The series made way for an extended piece cling work and hand-to-hand combat that lasted more than two minutes, with neither man posing a real threat of submission.

Tsarukyan generated some offense midway through the match, launching a standing kimura attempt that Magomedov calmly finished. Number 1 followed shortly afterwards UFC The lightweight contender secured a clean takedown that drew a reaction from the crowd, with Magomedov almost immediately getting back to his feet.

In the final minute, Arman Tsarukyan lifted Magomedov again and took him to the canvas, briefly working from guard before “Bullet” escaped again. Moments later the match came to an unceremonious end.

How many wrestling matches has Arman Tsarukyan participated in in 2025?

After withdrawing from his scheduled title fight against then-lightweight champion Islam Makhachev at UFC 311 in January, Arman Tsarukyan has remained very active outside the Octagon, with a busy 2025 schedule featuring multiple wrestling appearances.

“Ahalkalakets” opened his run with a decision victory over Makkasharip Zaynukov at Karate Combat 54 in May, before closing out the month with a submission finish against Patricky Pitbull at ADXC 10 in a quick turnaround.

Arman Tsarukyan continued that momentum in September, adding another win to his resume at ACBJJ 18 by rounding out MMA veteran Benson Henderson. The 29-year-old Armenian later switched back to mixed martial arts and returned to the Octagon at UFC Doha, where he scored a submission victory over Dan Hooker.

Tsarukyan returned to the wrestling scene once again earlier this month at ACBJJ 20, where he scored a submission victory over Mehdi Baydulaev. To end the year, “Ahalkalakets” competed against Shara Magomedov.
