- YouTube viewers have noticed that connections from Albania are not seeing ads.
- As a result, connecting to YouTube via a VPN with an Albanian endpoint can be an alternative to paying for Premium to get ad-free content.
- This method involves costs, can be risky and is not guaranteed to be sustainable.

As a result, if you use a VPN to appear as if you are visiting YouTube from Albania, you may not see any ads at all. TechRadar didn’t see any ads even after 150 minutes of watching.
The first, and perhaps the biggest (depending on your motivation for wanting to go this route in the first place): it’s still not free. While there are free VPNs available, to get one that explicitly gives you an endpoint in Albania, you’ll probably end up paying for an option with more features. That can still cost less than a full YouTube Premium subscription, but if you ‘don’t pay’ here you might be out of luck.
Then there is the question of how well this loophole will hold up. Although the problem with the Albanian ads has been known among YouTube users for a while, Google is not stupid, and it appears that the company has already taken steps to change things. On Reddit we see a user epicflex posted last year about seeing ads when connecting via Albania. More recently, users like it Ultimate Admiral are marked for VPN use.
Finally, if you just want to try this out, we definitely don’t recommend doing it with a Google account that you value in any way, as this seems like an easy way to get your account flagged. We can’t say for sure what the consequences might be, but if Google notices shady things, it doesn’t seem unreasonable for the company to take steps to further limit abuse.
Maybe just moving to Albania is the easiest option in the end? Or pay for YouTube Premium. Your choice.
