Apple posts Jessica Chastain series about household extremism

Jessica Chastain-guided series The Savant was taken from the Apple TV+ Release schedule.

The thriller would start on September 26, but the release has been postponed.

“After a careful consideration, we made the decision to postpone the savant,” said a spokesperson in a statement. “We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series on a future date.”

The show follows the character of Chastain that infiltrates online hate groups to prevent violence being committed in the US. It was loosely inspired by A Cosompolitan article from 2019 This describes a researcher who is known as the Savant as “an elite researcher who follows online angry men”.

In the trailer, her character warns: “Snipers, bombing, obstacles, we are about to be serious violence.” She adds: “This man does not only plant violence, he is out to make an explanation … innocent Americans die.”

“I hate this show is relevant,” said Chastain in an interview with the Radio times. “I hate it. I hate that there are massive acts of violence. But perhaps by relaxing this conversation and by relaxing this darkness in society, we will work together to repair it.”

Although Apple has not granted the decision, it will come shortly after the killing of right -wing commentator Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Prosecutors have accused the 22-year-old Tyler Robinson of the crime with SMS messages that seem to show that the act was motivated by Kirk’s “hatred”.

While reviews are embargo, Pat Stacey of the Irish Independent called The savant “a thriller that reflects the ugliness of white supremacist extremism in the United States”. The trailer also contains threats of “a coordinated mass attack” and words on the screen mention that between 1994 and 2020 893 were extremist attacks in America.
