With all the talk now with regard to Alexander Isak and his future in Newcastle United, it is important to remember that it is not the first time in the recent memory that we have come close to losing one of our deaths.

A little more than a year ago Anthony Gordon was almost part of a blockbuster ‘Swap’ deal with Liverpool, which would have seen Joe Gomez the other side.

Instead, the pair of Elliot Anderson and Yankuba MINTEH were sacrificed, and we avoided the former Everton -Manman to sell because of PSR compliance.

And now Gordon has spoken about last summer’s saga and gave some new insight where he sees his future after a much better summer.

In an interview with De Post Craig HopeGordon explained how ‘terrible’ was for him last summer, and how mentally rotated, the last three years of football have been for him.

After winning the Under-21 euros with England, Gordon enjoyed a meteoric turnout with us and became one of the most formidable and productive Wingers in the Premier League, although he could not earn minutes under Gareth Southgate at Euro 2024.

Then, in the summer window 2024, Gordon had booked a medical in Leipzig to go back to Merseyside, of which he says it demanded a large mental toll in the middle of a tapping summer.

“I would never lie. It was difficult for me because one: I had the euros, which was mentally terrible for me. I was there, I didn’t play.”

“Then I had that transfer items. With PSR I thought I would leave the window at some point (for Liverpool). It didn’t happen. I had to deal with my head, and when my head was getting around it again (when it didn’t happen) was difficult.”

“I am a human. It is really difficult. That is why I understand what Alex is going through. I feel for him. He will go through a lot. The club will continue a lot. I hope everyone will eventually get what they want.”

In general, a few years ago, it is for the 24-year-old: to go from player of the tournament on the U-9-Euro, up to only four minutes under Southgate, and even miss the Carabao Cup final.

But he now feels more refreshed and prepared mentally than ever for our largest season so far.

“The last three years are mentally exhausting for me. Football was like a job – there was always so much noise around me. There were so many games and I never had a summer off. Last year I had a little more than a week off, plus all the noise. Sometimes I felt negative.

“But I don’t feel that way now! This year I had a full summer of my family and friends. You can see, I am really renewed. I have my appetite back for football – I didn’t have that last year.

“The only thing I care about now is Newcastle. The way I came to the English team played well for Newcastle – that’s how I will get what I want from life.”

In his hope of the hope of England prior to next year’s World Cup, Gordon’s answer was exactly what we wanted to hear:

“At the moment I can’t care about that. The only thing I care about is Newcastle. The way I entered the English team played well for Newcastle. That is the way I get what I want from life.”

The last rule feels like a big hint on its future. He doesn’t go anywhere and all his focus is on Newcastle; In contrast to a certain Alexander Isak.

On Isak, Gordon admitted that he could relate to Isak with regard to all speculation:

“I understand what Alex is going through. For me it has been an absolute pleasure to be out of the transfer speculation for a summer! It is the first time in about three years! It was so easy, so mentally refreshing.”

“I am not linked to clubs and I am very happy where I am. I enjoy my football again.”
