Considered one of the game’s top scorers, Anthony Edwards is just 24 years old. Selected with the first pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, many already view him as the second-best Timberwolves player in team history (behind only Kevin Garnett, of course). In the Wolves’ game against the Spurs on Sunday, Edwards set a new franchise mark for most games with 30 points while donning the Minnesota jersey.
The Timberwolves have won two games in a row against winning teams! Considering how long it took them to accomplish that even once, that sentence definitely deserves an exclamation point at the end. It was a successful weekend for Minnesota (that can’t be said for the Minnesota NFL franchise), as they defeated the Celtics 11-9 on Saturday and the now 13-6 Spurs on Sunday. Prior to those two outings, they were 0-7 against teams currently above .500.
102nd regular season game of at least 30 points
After a fairly brief shooting slump, Edwards has certainly found his groove again for the Timberwolves. In Sunday’s win, he dropped 32 points on a super-efficient 13-18 from the field (4-6 from beyond the arc). That’s the fifth consecutive time the 6-foot-2 superstar has scored at least 30 points.
Sunday’s performance marked the 102nd time in the regular season that Edwards has recorded 30+ points. That’s a new Timberwolves franchise record, as he entered the game tied with Karl-Anthony Towns with 101. Garnett is third with 82 games of 30-plus points.
It took Edwards much less time than Towns to reach those marks. Sunday was Edwards’ 397th game. Towns spent his first nine seasons playing with Minnesota, making 573 appearances with them.
Edwards has improved his scoring average every year
On the season, Edwards has scored at least 30 points in 10 of his 16 appearances. He is averaging 28.7 points per game, currently good for 10th in the NBA.
That would be a career-best for Edwards, who has seen his scoring average increase every year he has been in the league. The three-time All-Star finished fourth in the league in scoring with an average of 27.6 points in the 2024-2025 season.
This season, Edwards has three games of 40+ points. That’s a team record he already held early in the season, as he now has 22 games of at least 40. Second most in franchise history are Towns and Kevin Love (13 each).
