(Woodstock, VA-22-9-2025) – Shenandoah Downs is organizing its largest Harness Racing Promotional Weekend of the Autumn season this Saturday 27 September – with a special $ 5,000 sports fans “own a horse for a day” – and Sunday 28 September – with the annual Wiener Dog derby.
The popular “Eigen Eigen Horse for the Day” match of the Virginia Harness Horse Association (VHHA), where eight fans have the opportunity to possess a horse for an afternoon and compete for a wallet of $ 5,000, will take a new turn this Saturday. To receive an entry, fans have to wear a sweater or shirt that shows their favorite sports team or player. Eight lucky fans are randomly chosen for this unique prize after the third race.
Each of the eight winners will randomly select an individual horse to possess in the ninth race – that afternoon – and will split a wallet of $ 5,000 based on where their respective horse ends. First, Finisher gets 50% of the wallet ($ 2,500), while second place gets 25% ($ 1,250), followed by 12%, 8% and 5% for the third fifth respectively. The last three finishers each get $ 100, so that all participants leave a winner.
Winners also get a lunch voucher and a chance to meet their horse, trainer and driver in the Paddock for the race.
The Wiener Dog derby from Sunday offers an afternoon of free family pleasure with the regular Harness racing card that starts at 1:05 pm. The popular dachshund races will run with the horse races from 2:00 pm with elimination heat after races four to seven followed by the Wiener Dog Dog itself after race eight.
Flippin Chicken will be on site to sell BBQ, S&S concessions, will sell $ 1 hot dogs, the bar has a $ 2 beer special and Sugar Creek Ice Cream will have many delicious ice creams available for fans to enjoy. Parking and access are free!
