Let’s add the latest moves to our review, the Angels and Perry MORONassian’s absolutely pathetic offseason. Can we all say it’s a carbon copy of the last three?
✅ Swap an established Major League hitter with 37 home runs for a pitcher who was once a top player after suffering serious arm injuries over the past two years and that’s a big question mark
✅ Draw a pitcher who was great two years ago. Then he forgot how to throw, suffered serious arm injuries and is on his third team in six months
✅ Sign a one-time, highly touted prospect with ties to the brave who can’t reach Major League pitching
✅ Feature two pitchers for the bullpen who were both great 6 years ago and who will both be DFA candidates at the all star break
✅ Sing a pitcher who is out of options, who has only 56 innings of MLB experience and walks a lot of batters
✅ Sing a pitcher who was very good before the pandemic, then had arm problems and was so bad in the minors that he was forced to pitch overseas and wait for it with ties to the Braves
✅ Trade for a middle infielder who could hit once, but injuries occurred and he hasn’t hit over .190 in three years. And guess what. With ties to the brave
✅ Sing a 39-year-old reliever who saw his era rise above five and has barely pitched due to arm and back problems.
✅ Rendon well SMH LOL 🤮 pay attention. That adds up
✅ Hire your fourth manager in five seasons who hasn’t played a minor league game, let alone the minors or the show, and give him a one-year contract.
✅ Be involved with Okamoto, a player who said: ‘Well, I’m good, I’m going to sing with a team worse than yours because they actually have a direction and are improving’
✅ Reportedly playing against Nolan Arenado, a third baseman who was good four years ago and now can’t hit and his current team is so desperate to get rid of the money. He would be this year’s Jorge Soler
✅Miss another player from Japan who said no. I think I’ll be playing third for a team that just came off a World Series appearance
✅ Sing a left-handed reliever who was once good and then, per the typical requirements of an Angel player, got hurt and his career completely imploded
✅Claim an outfielder off waivers who has a 69 plate in four seasons of pro ball and is hitting .232 at the MLB level, but it’s a hand from Moronnassian’s brother
✅ Sign another former highly touted prospect who is on his third team in two seasons. The kid can actually make contact and not strike out, but in typical Angels fashion, a major injury occurs
✅ Sign a reliever who has never had a sub-4.00 era and has bounced between triple A and the majors. His velocity has dropped and he has walked 12% of his batters. Shock in true Angels fashion due to major knee problems
✅ Trade one of the better young relief arms for a corner outfielder who is coming off a .220 season and has struck out 106 times in 396 plate appearances. And get this. Has a long history of injuries. He is Taylor Ward with less power and is always injured.
✅ Re-signing a third baseman who, in Angels fashion, has missed more than half the season due to injuries and has a long injury record. He hit just .236 and struck out 28% of his at-bats. Oh and he has to sit when there’s a lefty on the mound
✅ Six years ago, sing a once good power hitter who is now 34 and hasn’t played an MLB game in 2 1/2 years on a minor league deal. (I’m rooting for him) playing a position we’ve already established. He put up numbers in the second most hitter-friendly park in all of Triple A
✅ Lose your local TV contract (not your fault), so now MLB and ESPN can praise us for watching games. Remember the time before when all the games were on KTLA.
To quote a recent ESPN article, an ignorant GM made signings that would all have been great moves in 2022. Moronassian could run the Angels into the ground in franchise mode on MLB the Show on Xbox
Yet the gaps of CF, 3B (sort of) behind the rotation are still unfilled, closer and anyone who can hit above .230
