Ron Washington is out in Anaheim.
The Angels Manager did not raise his 2026 option, the team announced on Tuesday.
Washington, 73, has been away from the team since June to undergo a four -time bypass heart surgery.
Interim manager Ray Montgomery will also not return, the athletics added.
In an interview on Tuesday, Washington told the athletics That the decision was based on the game of the angels – not on his health.
“You know, if you are a competitor, and you are in charge, nothing of those things will play in the game,” said Washington. “Sometimes you have to make chicken salad of chicken s – t.”
Washington told the outlet that he did not get the chance to speak with Angels owner Arte Moreno before his management decision.
“I have to accept that,” added Washington. “I can’t go back to argue with them to tell them differently when they made a decision … We started to perform better.”
Washington became the manager of the Angels for the 2024 season.
That year the Angels went 63-99.

When Washington, who previously led the Rangers to World Series performances in 2010 and ’11, left the team this season, the Angels were on a respectable 36-38.

“I think I had let the team go in the right direction – I really did,” said Washington. “And it was just a shame that my health came into play. There is nothing that I can do about it.
“It was my team. I think the team took my personality. We certainly showed that. In this industry this is the kind of things that happen to you. If everything doesn’t go the way people wanted, you take the blame. And I’m okay.”
Former Angels stars Albert Pujols and Torii Hunter, both of which are currently special assistants for the team, are expected to become candidates for the job.
