Andy Robertson has been officially appointed Liverpool’s new vice-captain, with Arne Slot explaining his decision.
Liverpool was without a vice-captain since the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, and Slot had held his choice under Wraps.
It was generally expected that Mohamed Salah would fulfill the position, while Allisson and Alexis Mac Allister were also considered in the running.
But Robertson is mentioned in the role, which deserves richly, not only because of the years of service he has given to Liverpool, but also the respect he recommends in the dressing room.
The SCOT has been an important player since his relocation of Hull in 2017 and has shown his leadership in the last eight years, during what time he was also called the Scotland captain.
Slot explained his decision to call Robertson vice-captain before the collision of Liverpool with Arsenal, reporters said: “It was Virgil, Trent, Robbo and Mo last season. Trent left, so there are many logical reasons for it [the decision].
“He is a very good player, plays a lot of games, knows what is needed, knows the culture, but also knows the culture of the club and the dressing room.
“Apart from all the quality he shows on the field, he also plays a major role in the culture that we have here at this club.
“That is, I said many times last season, the biggest gift I could get from Jurgen.
“That is also something that we should definitely keep for my successor, the same culture, if I ever leave this club.”

Robertson had confronted with a decision to stay in Liverpool even in the summer in the summer in the midst of interest from Atletico Madrid.
Eventually he chose to reject Overtures from Spain to fight for the left place with new signature Milos Kerkez.
So far, Kerkez has started all three games with Robertson who comes from the bank, while Kostas Tsimikas is on his way instead when he goes to AS Roma on loan.
