The Seagulls secured a 2-0 victory at the Gtech Community Stadium thanks to first-half goals from Diego Gomez and Danny Welbeck.
It is the Bees’ first defeat in four league games, having won two and drawn one of the previous three, with the draw coming against league leaders Arsenal.
“I didn’t think we reached the level we’ve consistently achieved in the first half,” Andrews told BBC Match of the Day.
“We performed at a high level and we didn’t do that today. The second half was a big improvement. We showed a lot in the second half. We couldn’t take the opportunity early enough and that would have put them in trouble. Overall, it’s a disappointing day.”
Brentford captain Nathan Collins, who started the last two league games on the bench, replaced the injured Aaron Hickey towards the end of the first half but immediately messed up a cross to gift-wrap the second goal for Welbeck.
“Mistakes are an essential part of the game,” Andrews added. “I’m fine with that kind of thing, as long as we learn from why we performed the way we did in the first half and continue to grow as a group.”
Andrews makes big claim on Brentford after defeat at Brighton
Andrews also revealed what he told his players after the match. “My overall message was that we have been the best team in this competition over the last ten games and that 45 minutes of football will not define what we have done or what we will do in the future.”
Brentford were second in the form table during that period, having managed just one point less than Arsenal.
