Welcome back to our mini series and look at the updated depth of all player positions within the Calgary Flames organization. Today we will take a look at the defense and what will come for the future of the Blueline of the Flames.
The Flames have done well in recent years to add talent to their pipeline. When it comes to the backend, fans would like to witness the development of many of the defensive prospects of the team. Let’s look.
Players currently become contract
| Player | 2024-25 League |
| Zayne Parekh | OHL |
| Rasmus Andersson | NHL |
| Mackenzie Weegar | NHL |
| Kevin Bahl | NHL |
| Jake Bean | NHL |
| Daniil Miromanov | NHL |
| Brayden Pachal | NHL |
| Joel Hanley | NHL |
| Jeremie Poirier | Ahl |
| Ilya Solovyov | Ahl |
| Yan Kuznetsov | Ahl |
| Artem Grushnikov | Ahl |
| Hunter Brzuszewicz | Ahl |
| Nick Cicek | From the |
| Etienne Morin | Qmjhl |
The most important defense core for the Flames is not exactly the strongest. Although you have top-four guys such as Rasmus Andersson, Mackenzie Weegar and Kevin Bahl, the rest is debatable. The defense of the Flames also becomes weaker as soon as Andersson is eventually traded.
Although boys like Joel Hanley and Brayden Pachal have been great, they are not top-four defenders in a fighting team. Then you have Daniil Miromanov and Jake Bean, who in my opinion are not NHLERS, period. Bean would probably be the 7th defender of a team, while Miromanov is more suitable for the AHL and must be placed remotely.
Then you have the children and other Ahlers. Zayne Parekh is a lock in my eyes to make the flame schedule of this season and will look at the NHL level long. Players such as Hunter Bruzustewicz, Ilya Solovyov and Yan Kuznetkov will all be strong call-up candidates throughout the season. Players such as Nick Cicek, Jeremie Poirier, Artem Grushnikov play for most of the season in the minors and Eitenne Morin.
The non -signed group
| Player | 2024-25 League |
| Henry Mews | OHL |
| Mace’o Phillips | Ushl |
| Eric Jamieson | WHL |
| Jacob Leander | Swe-jr |
| Axel quickly | WHL |
Regarding the non -signing group, a few players stand out. Henry Mews in particular has drawn the eyes of many Flames fans since he was set up. His attacking mentality and hockey IQ are something to admire, because he could become something at NHL level. Mace’o Phillips also likes a player to keep an eye on. Although his figures will not jump on you, he is physically and his general attitude towards hockey, which has contributed to his success so far. The road of Philips is still long, but his playing style can go a long way.
For the others, their ways to professional hockey will take a long time. It really depends on how the development path of each player leads and whether NHL hockey is in the cards.
Last thoughts
Craig Conroy has really added an important defense talent to the Flames system since he was hired. Although the Blueline now looks rough, the Flames have a bright future with players such as Parekh, Mews and Brzustewicz all a lot of potential. As for this season, it will be important to cycle in some young players, because this team seems to build their core for the next generation.
