PM Modi launched five new Amrit Bharat Express trains

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday flagged off five more Amrit Bharat Express trains, a day after four such trains were launched. These trains start from various locations in Assam and West Bengal. The non-AC train services will connect the two eastern states with other locations in India such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra, South and West India.

The Amrit Bharat Express train network is part of the central government’s broader vision to modernize India’s railways, making travel across states comfortable, accessible and safe. As part of the government’s initiative to make comfortable travel affordable, train prices have been kept minimal. With low fares and shorter travel times, the features of the Amrit Bharat Express train service make it one of the best train services in India.

“These trains are designed to cater to high passenger volumes, especially during public holidays and peak migration periods, and will provide reliable, affordable and comfortable connectivity for travelers commuting for work, education and family needs in different parts of the country,” the Ministry of Railways said in a statement.

Key Features of Amrit Bharat Express:

-Ticket prices: Indian Railways launched Amrit Bharat II Express train services from January 2026. The Railway Board said, “It has been decided to introduce Amrit Bharat II Express (introduced from or after January 2026) through Indian Railways.” Ticket prices differ for different trains, but the minimum price to be paid is set at 200 km for sleeper class and 50 km for second class. Traveling in a non-AC sleeper car costs Rs 500 per 1,000 km, without dynamic pricing.

-The press release states that Amrit Bharat trains are completely non-AC, configured with 11 General Class coaches, 8 Sleeper Class coaches, 1 Pantry Car and 2 Second Class-cum-Luggage-cum-Guard Vans with disability-friendly compartments.

– These trains are designed and manufactured to meet the needs of the general public and aim to provide a modern, comfortable and high-quality travel experience to passengers in the non-AC segment.

– Serving multiple districts in six states, passing through destinations such as the Kamakhya Temple and the Ganga Ghats of Varanasi, improving accessibility, tourism and regional linkages.

– A key feature of the new Amrit Bharat II Express is RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) tickets, which will be removed from the Sleeper class. All available sleeper berths are now confirmed from the start, so you will not receive RAC tickets in Sleeper class.
