Manchester United -boss Ruben Amorim has said that he saw his team improvement, despite the club’s defeat in the opening weekend against Arsenal.
Riccardo Calafiori scored the decisive goal in Old Trafford after the mistake of Altay Bayindir for Manchester United. The goalkeeper made a mess of a corner kick to act the simplest headers up close.
Amorim’s side was the better team for large periods of the game and forced David Raya in various smart saves for Arsenal. Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo both threatened debut, with the first Raya forced in an excellent reflex stop.
United wants to rebuild the 15th place of last season, the lowest of the Premier League era of the club. Despite the start of the campaign with defeat, Amorim said there were many positive points. He praised the courage of his team in and out and said that Manchester United ‘earned more’ from the game.
“I am really proud of the boys. They were really brave in everything they did during the game,” he told Sky Sports.
“Congratulations for the performance. We have earned a different result and we have to continue to the next one.
“We were more aggressive than last year. We went one and we went high. We had quality with the ball. Even when the stadium made some sounds, we continued to play the way we play.
“You always feel in the game, they can do something, not just with the ball, but without the ball. I am proud of the game we have played. We have lost and have things to work on.
“We have to win games, but that was completely different than last season.”
