Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim criticized the avoidable goals that admitted his side in their 3-0 defeat in Manchester City.
Amorim’s side was well beaten in Etihad with defensive errors that are punished in a ruthless way. Phil Foden went in front after 18 minutes, while Pep Guardiola took the lead in an equally first half.
However, the superior quality of the city shone after the break, where Erling Haaland is central. The Norwegian has made an attempt to double Altay Bayindir to double the advantage after a slick movement, before sliding into the post in a precise third.
United sniffed in an attempt to add some respectability, but again looked toothless in the last third part. Amorim invested heavily in his front line this summer, but there has been little evidence about progress so far. With regard to his system, it is still exposed to Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire unable to keep pace with the front line of the city.
“If you look at the goals, we can avoid those goals. That was the biggest difference. We can do it better, especially the second goal. We have had goals that we can avoid,” Amorim reflected in the BBC match of the day.
“The biggest difference was when we had transitions, we didn’t score. In the second half they did better in transition and we suffered at that time.
“We can do better, that is clear, but again transitions – the third goal, lack of quality in the connection, people don’t know who goes to the ball and then the man is free to score. The first he is in the middle of four boys and we can be aggressive at the time.
“We have to be perfect in these types of games and in this game we were not perfect. The frustration is always the same because we are needed with the amount of opportunities to score goals.
