AMG gets a new boss. Mercedes retains the mystery

In recent years, to say the least, AMG have been tumultuous. In September 2022, Affalterbach did the unthinkable by introducing a four -cylinder C63. As you know, the debut of the Sportsedan opened the locks for widespread criticism. Mercedes never publishes sales figures separately for his performance brand, but reports of serious discounts suggest that it could not win that the traction that AMG had hoped for.

Elsewhere, the recent recall of 219 AMG One Hypercars about a fire risk certainly did not help. That is almost 80 percent of the entire production run and follows years of developmental people to homologize the F1 engine for street use. But that does not mean that everything is doom and gloom. There is a new V-8 engine on the horizon, together with the promise of “very emotional” electric sports cars.

These new products will arrive while someone else takes the lead at AMG. Mercedes moves the current AMG -CEO Michael Schiebe to a new position as a member of the Board of Management that is responsible for production, quality and supply chain management, from December 1, 2025.

Schiebe has led AMG for two and a half years, after he was appointed in March 2023. He has been at the company since 2004 and has held various positions for the past two decades. For now, Mercedes does not say who will take the reins at AMG, only that the name “will be announced at a later date.”

AMG’s renewed appreciation for combustion engines brings it in a solid position to fight BMW M and Audi Sport. The incoming V-8 could see broader availability than packing the current eight-cylinder and more punch. That is even though fuel consumption and emissions will reduce to meet the Euro 7 regulations. Recent reports claim that the C63 gets a larger engine, although not the V-8. Instead, it can get a 3.0-liter engine.

On the EV side, the GT XX concept will evolve into an electric super sedan, spent with a future SUV. AMG is convinced that it can lure buyers by “developing the best electric V-8 on the market,” says Schiebe. However, we remain skeptical that the sounds of artificial engine and simulated gear shifts will help close the deal.

But with the right inline-Six and V-8 engines for Ice Sloyalists, AMG can meet both parties. Mercedes certainly has the means to manage such a broad portfolio, but those who ultimately run AMG will not have an easy job. Here hope that the new leadership will eventually reduce the V-12, especially after the recent dedication of Mercedes to keep its greatest engine alive. For now, the 6.0-liter Twin-Turbo-power patient is exclusive to the Maybach S-Class.

Regarding another road car with a Formula 1 engine, this will never happen again as a result of sharpening the emission rules.
