If you thought it would take some time for Scottie Scheffler to iron out the offseason rust, think again.

The world number 1 played his first round of the new one PGA Tour season on Thursday, and he showed why he’s the best in the world. Playing at La Quinta Country Club, Scheffler left nine birdies and no bogeys to fire a nine-under 63. He hit 17 of 18 greens on Thursday, chipping in for birdie on the only one he missed.

Despite his great lap, Scheffler is not in the lead. He is one ahead of Min Woo Lee and Pierceson Coody after these two players went 10 under on the Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA West.

For Friday’s second round, Scheffler switches to the Nicklaus Tournament Course.
